Kish Parella

C. V.

My academic and professional career is driven by a deep commitment to understanding how law shapes corporate conduct across borders. As the James P. Morefield Professor of Law at Washington and Lee University School of Law, I specialize in international business transactions, with a distinctive research focus on the intersection of corporate governance and international law. My work explores how legal and institutional frameworks influence corporate behavior in areas such as compliance, ethical governance, and geopolitical risk.

My CV reflects a research agenda that is both global and interdisciplinary. I’ve had the privilege of serving as Co-Chair of the 2022 Annual Meeting and the 2025 Midyear Forum of the American Society of International Law (ASIL) and currently serve on ASIL’s Executive Council. My international recognition includes appointments as a Research Member of the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI) and International Research Fellow at Oxford University’s Centre for Corporate Reputation. I have held visiting scholar positions at the Max Planck Institute (Hamburg) and Singapore Management University.

My scholarship has appeared or is forthcoming in top journals such as Cornell Law Review, Duke Law Journal, Notre Dame Law Review, Vanderbilt Law Review, Harvard International Law Journal, and Journal of International Economic Law. Three of my articles were selected for the Stanford/Harvard/Yale Junior Faculty Forum in consecutive years, and my article “Protecting Third Parties in Contracts” received the Ralph Hoeber Award for Excellence in Research.
